As the date when the European Championship of 2020 will be in full swing fast approaches, host cities are scrambling to make sure that their stadiums can safely house spectators. Anyone who’s been keeping up with our posts will know that London is one such host city.

In fact, London’s Wembley Stadium is set to host the semi-finals and the final of the football Euro. A number of trial events have been held to test what would happen when fans and spectators attend the matches in large numbers.

As luck would have it, it seems that these trial runs have been very successful. In fact, out of over 58,000 people who attended these test events, there were only 15 positive cases of COVID-19. That means that only 0.03% of attendees were positive.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has spoken of these tests, leading him to call them ‘a real success’. However, trial events weren’t the only measures of success. At the same time, there were no cases of COVID-19 that emerged from the FA Cup Final.

Fans watching the showdown between Leicester City and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium walked out of the stadium COVID-free. This is very encouraging news for football fans looking to catch the final Euro matches at the prestigious stadium.

Wembley’s Euro 2020 Matches Are to Be Included in the Next Set of Trial Runs

Test events, however, won’t stop there. In fact, the next phase of tests are to include the UEFA European Championship matches that will be held at Wembley. This next round of trial events will see a fully packed Wembley stadium.

Of course, this is to test out whether events of such magnitude are possible in the current circumstances. The results thus far have inspired a surge of optimism in Dowden, who’s hoping that full stadiums can be possible once more.

In fact, he’s gone on record saying, ‘I hope by June 21 we will be lighting up the West End again, having full stadiums and bringing light and Technicolor back into our national life again’. So far so good, but only time can tell at this point.

This is important information, especially if you’re going to be betting on the Euro 2020. When teams play with a stadium full of ardent fans, things can change dramatically. In fact, a team can actually win thanks to their loyal supporters!
