What Is the Format of the Premier League?

The Premier League is an English domestic league, featuring the top 20 clubs of the country at the time. However, the roster of clubs isn’t fixed and changes every year. This is because the tournament uses a promotion and relegation system.

This means that the 3 worst-performing teams of the EPL are relegated to the EFL Championship, which is the second division of the English soccer system. In other words, the 3 teams that finish at the bottom of the tournament are demoted to an “inferior” league.

On the other hand, the 3 top-performing teams of the EFL Championship are promoted to the EPL. Due to this system, the roster changes slightly with every edition. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into the meat of the format.

Firstly, the league begins in August and runs through to May the following year. The format of the tournament is a double round-robin system, where each clubs plays against each other club twice, once home and once away.

Depending on their performance in these matches, the clubs are awarded with points: 3 points for a win, a point for a draw, and none for a loss. A club is ranked according to how many points they’ve received over the course of a season.

Who Is the Competition? The Clubs That Are Currently Playing in the Champions League

As we’ve already said, there are 20 clubs playing in the EPL at any point. However, with every passing season, the roster of clubs changes due to the league’s promotion and relegation system. You can find the clubs that are currently playing in the following table:

Club Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Liverpool Anfield Stadium
Brentford Brentford Community Stadium
Burnley Turf Moor
Norwich City Carrow Road
Southampton St Mary’s Stadium
Manchester City Etihad Stadium
Crystal Palace Selhurst Park

The Hosts & Locations of the Premier League

The Premier League is not hosted by one single city, club or stadium. While the whole event does take place in its entirety in the UK, the individual games are all hosted by the different clubs who are participating in the league.

This is because of the double round-robin format of the tournament. Thus, for every match a club will have with another club, they’ll play once at their own stadium and once at the rival club’s stadium. This makes sure that every club gets a taste of that home advantage.

Who Are the Most Powerful Clubs Playing in the Premier League? Favourites of the League

The Premier League is replete with immensely powerful clubs that, year in, year out, give dazzling soccer performances. Anyone familiar with the history of the tournament will tell you that the competition used to be dominated by 4 clubs, appropriately dubbed the “Big Four“.

These clubs were: Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea. Of course, these clubs are still as powerful as ever, but lately the competition has allowed for other clubs to emerge serious contenders in the league.

In fact, the Big Four has been extended to now include 2 other clubs, which are: Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. As a result of the inclusion of these 2 other clubs, the Big Four has now been renamed to the “Big Six“.

The Big Six regularly appear as favourites of the league, with the odds being heavily in their favour. And, in fact, the 2021-2022 EPL is no exception: the odds are greatly favouring Manchester City to be crowned the champions.

What Are Premier League Betting Odds?

Arguably, the most important thing that you need to know when you decide to play any bets on the EPL is the odds. These are the numbers that you can find next to each market that we offer. Odds are important for 2 very significant reasons.

Firstly, they tell you the likelihood of the bet going your way. At the same time, they also tell you how much money you stand to gain if your wager is successful. It’s for these reasons that knowing how to understand the odds is imperative in the world of gambling.

How to Make Sense of Premier League Odds

First things first, you should bear in mind that there are 3 ways that odds can be represented. The 3 different formats are: fractional, decimal, and American. Whilst these formats may look very different, there are only a handful of differences between them.

Firstly, the formats differ in how they represent the risk and reward of a wager. Secondly, they differ in where in the world they happen to be most commonly used. Other than that, the formats are completely interchangeable and you can use whichever you’re comfortable with.

Finally, every format has a different way of being read. If you wish to find out how the various formats can be understood, we highly suggest reading our explanation on how to read the odds. This will help you when betting on the fantastic tournament.

What Are Premier League Tips?

Premier League betting tips are pieces of advice on which club to wager on during the tournament. These are given out by tipsters, sports experts that painstakingly analyse details from the EPL to provide their predictions on who might win it.

Tipsters, therefore, will analyse things like player form, team composition, previous performances of a club, their current manager, etc. This will allow them to make educated guesses on who the best clubs are at the moment.

Where Can You Find Tips & Tipsters For the Premier League?

Finding tips and tipsters that are going to help you improve your Premier League betting is rather straightforward. All you need to do is look them up on your preferred search engine and you’re set! Our best advice, however, is to play responsibly, set a budget for yourself, and make time for important things in life.

FAQs

How many games take place during a season of the Premier League?

Each club in the EPL plays 38 games during a season. This is because they play against all the other clubs twice.

How does Premier League handicap betting work?

Handicap betting happens when you have a particularly powerful club facing a far less powerful contender. This heavily skews the odds in favour of the stronger club, creating a situation where wagering on the stronger club is unprofitable and wagering on the weaker club is a massive long shot. Thus, the handicap bet serves to balance this by giving a goal deficit to the stronger club and a goal surplus to the weaker one. This levels the playing field, giving you much better odds.

Which club has been the most successful in the Premier League?

The club that has been the most successful in the league is none other than Manchester United. In fact, the Red Devils have managed to win the EPL a total of 13 times.

Can you bet on the Premier League live?

Absolutely! Our live betting or “In-Play” feature allows you to bet on the matches happening during the EPL live—or, in other words, as they’re being played.
