There are plenty of motorbike racing events out there that Canada sports bettors can bet on, but the one that gets the most attention when it comes to sports betting online in Canada is MotoGP. Every year, a total of 12 teams and 22 riders compete in a series of races for the right to be crowned champion, and Betiton Canada gives our punters plenty of MotoGP online betting opportunities.

In this MotoGP betting guide, we are going to take a closer look at the different MotoGP betting markets, the best races to place bets on, and also give you some MotoGP betting tips to always keep in mind.

How Does Online MotoGP Betting Work?

MotoGP Betting Odds

Regarding the betting odds MotoGP at Betiton Canada, there are three different formats that you can toggle between, and these are decimal, fractional, and American. We have opted for the decimal format to be our default setting, but this can be changed in the top right of the page.

We know that you might be new to betting on MotoGP, so we will briefly explain each format so that you can select the best one for you.

  • Decimal: The number indicates the amount that will be paid out if you land a winning bet. For instance, if you bet $10 on a rider with odds of 5.00 and they go on to win the race, you will get a $50 return. This is your $10 stake and $40 returns.
  • Fractional: The number indicates the amount that can potentially be won for every $1 that you wager. For example, if you were to put a $10 wager down with odds of 5/1 and it wins, you will get $60 in return. This is the $10 stake and your $50 profit.
  • American: This format stands out as it comes with a minus and plus sign. The plus sign indicates the underdog and the amount that is on offer for a successful $100 wager, while the minus sign indicates the favorite and the amount that you will need to put down in order to land $100.

MotoGP Betting Markets

At Betiton Canada, the best MotoGP betting site, we offer our Canadian punters odds for a range of MotoGP markets. Some of you might think that there is not an awful lot to bet on for this sport, but you would be wrong. Below you can find out about the various markets that you can choose from when you are doing a spot of MotoGP championship betting.

  • Championship winner: This is where you try and predict which rider will be at the top of the points table after all 21 races have been raced. Place your outright bets as early as possible since the odds will shorten with the completion of each race.
  • Race winner: With this market, you need to try and predict the winner of a particular race. It does not matter if they do not win the championship, so long as they win the race that you predicted.
  • Podium finish: Betting on the winner of a race when there are 22 riders can be quite limiting, so you will be given the option of betting on a rider to claim a podium spot – this means they will need to finish in the top three.
  • Rider vs Rider: You need to predict which rider will finish higher in the race between two riders. Your selected rider does not need to win the race, they just have to finish in a better position than whoever they were pitted against.
  • Without driver: This market takes the favorite out of the betting equation – you can think of it a bit like handicap betting since you are levelling the playing track. It allows you to bet on one of the underdogs and have a greater chance of winning.

What Types of Motorbike Races Are There?

While MotoGP is the most popular type of motorbike racing, there are other types of motorbike races out there. Below you can see some of the more popular ones:

  • Road Racing: Races that take place on public roads which are closed off to the public. The most famous one is the Isle of Man TT, while other big road racing events occur in Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.
  • Speedway Racing: Up to six riders race around an oval dirt track that is made up of four left handers. The bikes have no brakes and no gears, so the only way to navigate corners is to do a power slide.
  • Trials Racing: This is a race where the riders need to overcome a series of obstacles without touching the ground. The bikes are really light as they are lacking a seat and have little suspension.
  • Moto Cross: It takes place on a circuit which is made out of gravel, sand and mud. It is very demanding because events are not postponed if the weather is rubbish.
  • Freestyle Moto Cross: The riders perform a series of challenging acrobatics with their bikes in mid-air, trying to earn points from judges based on trick difficulty, style, and originality.
  • Drag Racing: Two riders race down a stretch of tarmac that is a quarter-mile in length. The motorcycles are extremely powerful as this form of racing is all about speed – the bikes can reach speeds of 200 mph, completing the race in a little under six seconds.

Portugal Grand Prix

The Portugal Grand Prix is raced on the Algarve International Circuit, which is 2.89 miles long. This is one of the best tracks on the circuit for overtaking due to the width, while it is also a little more dangerous because of some unique turns with personality. Valentino Rossi is the most successful rider here with five wins, while Daniel Holgado won in 2023 and 2024.

Grand Prix of the Americas

This MotoGP race takes place on the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, United States. It is one of the newest tracks on the circuit as it only opened in October of 2012. It is popular among riders due to the difference challenges it offers – there is a steep incline at one point on this 3.4-mile-long track. Marc Márquez has won seven times here, while Maverick Viñales won the most recent edition.

French Grand Prix

The French Grand Prix is currently raced on the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans. This track, which is 2.6 miles long, is one of the most demanding thanks to the famous Ford Chicane, Dunlop Esses, and start/finish straight. There are also a series of twists and turns, giving the riders no respite. Giacomo Agostini has had the most success here as he has won a total of seven times.

Argentine Grand Prix

The Argentina Grand Prix has been taking place at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo since 2014, but the 2024 edition was cancelled due to current issues in Argentina – it is hoped that it will return there in 2025. It has undergone many changes over the years, and now includes a tricky 180 degree turn that must be navigated with skill and precision. Marc Márquez has won three MotoGP races on this track.

Qatar Grand Prix

The Lusail racetrack in Qatar, which is 3.37 miles long, has the honour of being the place where each MotoGP season gets underway. The opening race usually occurs at night to avoid the searing daytime temperatures. Heat can wreak havoc with the tires, so it is safer to race at night. Jorge Lorenzo has six wins here, while the 2024 race was won by F. Bagnaia.

Australian Grand Prix

This race has been taking place on the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for nearly 30 years now. This 3.31-mile track is one that all riders enjoy racing on as it is one of the prettiest circuits on the calendar. In the past, this race has taken place at Eastern Creek, which is west of Sydney and in New South Wales at Bathurst. Rossi is the most successful rider on this track with eight wins.

British Grand Prix

Motorcycle races in the UK used to take place on the Isle of Man, but this changed when Gilbert Parlotti was killed in an accident back in 1972. The next MotoGP race after that was at Silverstone in 1977, and then it was moved to Donnington Park for a little over two decades. Since 2010, Silverstone has been the home of MotoGP in Britain. Rossi, once again, has a total of eight wins here.

Italian Grand Prix

This event used to be known as the Gran Premio Delle Nazioni Nations Grand Prix between 1949 and 1990, and it is one of the original races for the motorcycle calendar. For 20 years it was raced and Monza, and then it took place at different circuits around Italy between 1972 and 1993. For the past three decades, it has been raced at the Mugello Circuit in Florence. Giacomo Agostini has a total of 13 wins here.

Japanese Grand Prix

The Japanese Grand Prix took place on the Suzuka Circuit for years, but this changed in 2004 when it was moved to the Mobility Resort Motegi. The previous circuit was deemed to be too dangerous because of its trackside barriers and short runoffs – Daijiro Kato lost his life there in 2003. Márquez has been the best rider on this circuit, claiming a total of five wins.

FIM Intercontinental Games Jerez 2024

The FIM Intercontinental Games Jerez 2024 is a new MotoGP racing event that will take place at the famous Circuito de Jerez. Riders from Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, Oceania, and America will compete in teams across various disciplines with points being awarded based on rankings. They are aiming to have this competition every two years.

Betiton Canada MotoGP Betting Tips

motogp betting tips by betiton canada

Now that you know about the different markets and competitions that you can bet on when it comes to MotoGP, we are now going to give you some betting tips to keep in mind when you are MotoGP betting Australia or on any other event.

  • Check out a rider’s form: Riders, like other sportsmen, will see their form come and go, so you need to check whether they are at the top of their game before you bet on them to be victorious. If you see that a rider has lost many recent races, it is best not to back him.
  • Check the competition leaderboard: Check out the MotoGP leaderboard before you bet on a race since this gives you a very good idea as to which riders are performing well and those who are struggling. Those who are sitting near the top are obviously in much better form than those near the bottom.
  • Know about upgrades: MotoGP laws allow for each team to improve their motorbikes across the season, so it is important that you stay updated with any bike upgrades that have been done. Thanks to social media platforms, such as Facebook, X and Instagram, this is easily done now.
