Floorball is a type of indoor hockey with a unique format and rules played on a gymnasium floor. While floorball isn’t as widely recognised as mainstream sports like ice hockey or basketball, it is steadily gaining popularity in Canada and other countries.

In this Betiton Canadian sports betting guide, we’ll explain how floorball betting works, what markets you can bet on, and the top competitions and tournaments throughout the year. Keep reading to learn more about betting on this sport and get our best tips.

How Does Online Floorball Betting Work?

Floorball betting works similarly to other sports betting. You place bets on the outcomes of games, such as which team will win, the total goals scored, or a specific player’s performance.  The sportsbook provides the odds, which you use to place your bet according to your prediction. You win a payout based on the odds and size of your stake if your bet wins. If not, the bet is entirely lost.

Floorball Betting Odds

Betiton provides some of the best floorball betting odds in Canada. These odds represent the likelihood of any result occurring. The default odds format is fractional, but you can change it in the top-right menu if you prefer a different one.

Below is a quick explanation of these formats:

  • American odds are presented with either a plus or minus sign. The plus indicates the potential winning from a $100 bet, and the minus shows how much you have to bet to win $100.
  • Decimal odds represent the potential payout for each unit wagered, including the original stake. For example, odds of 2.50 mean that for every unit bet, the possible return is $2.50 units if the bet is successful.
  • Fractional odds are presented as fractions such as 5/1 or 2/5The first number represents the potential win, and the second indicates the required stake.

What Is Floorball?

Floorball is a dynamic, indoor team sport that has been enjoyed in various forms since the early 1900s. It originated as an alternative version of hockey, played in gymnasiums, and has roots connected to the sport of bandy.

Gaining traction in the mid-20th century, it became particularly popular in school gym classes across Michigan, USA. The sport received formal recognition and structure in 1970s Sweden, rapidly evolving into a formalised competitive game within Nordic countries. The establishment of the International Floorball Federation (IFF) in 1986 marked a significant milestone, overseeing its regulation and promotion worldwide.

Floorball vs Floor Hockey

While floorball and indoor hockey may appear similar at first glance, they are distinct sports with notable differences. Overall, indoor hockey is considered to be more aggressive as it allows limited body contact and checking. Floorball is considered much safer as it uses lighter sticks and a plastic ball. Here are some key distinctions between the two:
